So I'm sitting here watching the 7|22 video from this past tuesday and honestly I've had to stop it. I can hear the Gasps's across the internet now. "Eric has stopped watching a 7|22 session, you know what that means? That session must have really stunk!" Well I'm afraid to burst your bubble but I'm pretty sure it didn't stink at all. Margaret Feinberg and her book Organic God are both amazing. She's a very personable person, a very real person and her book really does outline some basic and simple ideas which we should all try to follow or adapt into our own lives.

No the reason I had to stop the video is because I knew what was coming at the end. The whole time I'm sitting there watching it (I got just 1/3 of the way through Margaret talking) I can't help but think about the last 20 minutes of the night. Which, by the way, I was able to catch after leading my Oasis group.

Glimpse of Buckhead Church Music

My man Carlo aka Los aka Raggamuffin Soul performed during my baptism. He sang the song "Glory To God" which was written by Viki Beeching and Steve Fee. Well after posting my baptism video the other day I sent him a quick email letting him know about the post. I actually sent a nagging email because he owes me pictures H took during the baptism, lucky for me H said this is what I have to do in order to get the pictures so I don't feel "that" bad about sending an annoying email a day.

But I digress. In my email I sent him, I mentioned how awesome it would be to have video of him performing the Glory to God piece. I even poked him a bit and said it would be "cool" if he could whip something up in his "spare time". So low and behold today on his blog he posts a Creative Chaos piece featuring the Versa Tubes used during production. Funny, out of all the songs performed on that day, and all the sunday's which have featured the Versa Tubes (even in this configuration), he choose this awesome 1:30 second clip of Glory To God! Los you are the man, I love you dude!

I have an addictive personality. I'm not saying people just can't get enough of me, in fact some would tell you the complete opposite that they get TOO much of me. No what i mean is I can't do things like gamble or go to casino's, or do anything which allows for repetition because if I enjoy it I'll just keep on keeping on. If I walk into a casino with $20 and sit down in front of a slot machine I will play until the entire $20 is gone, and all my winnings are gone too.

Baptism Post #2 - One question started all this?

Music , My Baptism , Personal , Religion No Comments »

I've mentioned in a few post how much I love music and how I used to be a poet. This love of music and my feeble attempts at poetry actually got started in my early church days. There was a guy in my youth group, Chris, who was older and a very talented musician. He was a rocker who was really good at the guitar, song writing and even producing music. It was Chris who inspired me to first pick up a guitar and later to learn the bass guitar.

Chris along with a few other church members actually started up a praise worship band in our little church. This was a big deal because up to this point we were like every other church. We had a piano, an organ and sung hymns out of our hymnals. But on occasion they got to play during the service and even did a few concerts during special events. They weren't a great band but at the time I didn't know the difference. To me it was just so cool to see my kind of music, rock and alternative, being performed at church AND have a christian spin on it.

Now this was back in the day before the internet (yea I'm dating myself here aren't I), so I could not rush home to itunes and start exploring new music etc. So I leaned heavily on Chris to be my influencer and he did. He introduced me to lots of groups, both christian and non christian. He took me to my first concert, Joe Satriani - Surfing with an Alien Tour, and like I mentioned before got me interested in playing the guitar.

Chris was also an awesome Christian and probably one of my earliest influences. He always wore a silver cross around his neck, carried a Bible and wasn't afraid to quote the Bible or even ask tough questions of our youth leaders. The youth as a whole looked up to him and valued the input and time he put in to the meetings and the band. Personally if it wasn't for Chris I would have never started writing songs, which later turned into poetry and finally into full on stories and blog posts.

So keep your eyes open people you never know when a simple question, or a simple act of kindness will change someone's world. It might not be evident right away but give it time and it could grow into something amazing. For me it was that one question which launched me into a wonderful world of writing.

Thanks Chris, and yea I still play the guitar and I'm still horrible at it :).
