Seriously. Seriously? Seriously!

So I'm sitting here watching the 7|22 video from this past tuesday and honestly I've had to stop it. I can hear the Gasps's across the internet now. "Eric has stopped watching a 7|22 session, you know what that means? That session must have really stunk!" Well I'm afraid to burst your bubble but I'm pretty sure it didn't stink at all. Margaret Feinberg and her book Organic God are both amazing. She's a very personable person, a very real person and her book really does outline some basic and simple ideas which we should all try to follow or adapt into our own lives.

No the reason I had to stop the video is because I knew what was coming at the end. The whole time I'm sitting there watching it (I got just 1/3 of the way through Margaret talking) I can't help but think about the last 20 minutes of the night. Which, by the way, I was able to catch after leading my Oasis group.

Ideas, Fasting & Jerry Maguire

Ideas are powerful. This was the theme of a sermon Andy gave a few weeks back entitled My Summer Vacation. Andy along with his family took a trip to Rwanda, saw a lot of amazing things and shared with us an amazing story of forgiveness. If you've ever had a hard time forgiving someone, or even yourself, then you need to go find this sermon and listen to it. If after that sermon you still can't find forgiveness tell me and I'll pray for you.

The other theme which came out of this sermon was how ideas are powerful. Even simple ideas can have lasting impacts on our life in both positive and negative ways. Ideas like collecting money for a charity during a normal sunday coffee social, or trying to use art to teach others about Christ, and of course creating a movie and a movement to show people that a homeless person is a person too just like you and me.

A Very Blessed Weekend

Man what a weekend! God's blessings occur in so many ways and I got a lot of them this weekend. They can be as simple as dinner with friends after church, a full day in the park soaking up God's glory, or as grand as filling a 620 person theater with 633 people. No matter how they happen, they all have a point, they are all special and I love Him for them.

The Dark Side? Really You Eric?

Technology , Personal Reflection

Yes I'm really considering a move to the dark side. The dark side of computing that is. In my world that would be the Apple camp. (don't tell me I'm wrong just because you're ALREADY an Apple user). Mainly I'm missing my laptop. I had a tricked out Alienware mobile laptop that got a LOT of use. But it was big, bulky, and somewhat of a PITA.

So about a year ago after that blue beast started to die on me and I refused to deal with the support team at Alienware anymore, I retired it. I drove up to Fry's and built myself a desktop system for about $1600. Now this same system would have cost me about 3k from one of the big computer manufactures so I was pretty proud of my skills. To date the desktop has rocked and been everything I need and designed it to be.

Recently though I've become A LOT more mobile. I'm always somewhere else and I'm finding my desire to have a laptop returning. Sure I can check my email on my phone. I have my twitter to keep peeps informed but there are times when I'm sitting at StarBucks or elsewhere and wish I could just whip out a laptop and pound out some ideas.

But that's not all.

I follow my man Carlos and am in constant awe of his creativity and his transparency. One of the things Carlo's does often on his blog is post video's. Sometimes they are him chatting for like 1 - 5 min and others it's time lapse stuff over a course of a full day etc.

I SO WANT THAT!

Seriously how cool would that be to see me on hyper drive for a day or two? Ok so maybe 1 of you said "yea that would be cool" while the other 3 of you went, "um that's a bit of an jonese overload".

So why do I need a laptop for this? And what's this Apple thing? Well Carlos, as well as most creative types use Apple computers aka Mac's. My industry is rapidly changing and many shops, programs etc are moving this way as well. So I see the move to using an Apple having a lot of benefits for me:

  1. I stay inline with the cool kids
  2. I expand my repertoire of computer knowledge
  3. I finally get to see what I've been missing
  4. I step outside of my comfort zone.

#4 is a big one for me. I've been a window's guy for a long time. I played in the *nix world but only on an enterprise level. I've never outright dissed the Apple, I just didn't see it as something I needed. Well I'm seeing the need and as others around me create cool stuff I feel myself slipping out of sync.

So yea I'll admit it. I want to buy myself Mac Book Pro. Now I just have to figure out the how part :) Until then rest easy that all you'll get from me is words on the screen!

Very Good Reason For Being So Quiet

Take Action , Atlanta No Comments »

Trust me I want to blog. I have a bunch of ideas in my head that I haven't been able to get online, or on paper. Ask my friends, they've all heard me in the past week at least once say "man I need to blog about XX".

But I haven't. I've neglected all 3 of you, my loyal readers. Who knows maybe I'm up to 4 people by now.

I have good reason though. This friday a group of people I'm so fortunate enough to be a part of is having a major event. They have been working for over a year with one goal in mind and this friday we all get to experience it. My Concrete Mattress will debut in Dublin GA this friday the 11th of July. I am in such awe of the guys and girls who have made this movie and who help to make The Unthinkable Project a success. God has really worked in all of our lives to make this a reality and we all know there have been many times when it would have just failed without Him.

So check out the promo trailer below. Maybe even reserve a seat for yourself. If nothing else pray for us and all the volunteers (close to 50) who will be helping us make this a reality come friday night.
