A Very Blessed Weekend

Man what a weekend! God's blessings occur in so many ways and I got a lot of them this weekend. They can be as simple as dinner with friends after church, a full day in the park soaking up God's glory, or as grand as filling a 620 person theater with 633 people. No matter how they happen, they all have a point, they are all special and I love Him for them.

So the premier of My Concrete Mattress was Friday the 11th. I showed up with another leadership team member around 5pm and immediately got to doing what I could. My first task was simple. Go to the CVS, pick up 8 x 10 photo enlargements and a roll of double stick tape. Well in classic jonese fashion I got there, got distracted and forgot the double stick tape. Yea me!

So I had to reprieve myself. So I volunteered to climb up a really shaky ladder to hang a really heavy sign for the premiere. This meant I had to climb up, grab part of this 15 foot long burlap sign and then using fishing line (which is invisible by the way) to tie it to the ceiling. Sounds easy right, yea not so much. But with a little guidance from the team on the ground, who were quick to point out when I was to high or low, it got done. Add a little extra duct tape here and there and viola one cool sign.

From there it was all about crowd control and then just being a calm face or person to those who had a lot more on their minds. The doors opened up at 7pm and we started seating people at 7:30. by 8:15ish the theater was packed and we were ready to go.

The entire night was amazing with a great band, an amazing poet, and of course a brilliant movie by some amazing guys. After the movie we had a surprise for everyone. In the foyer there were going to be at least 6 different organizations ranging from helping the homeless, to mentoring kids. People where encouraged to sign up for a program or just take some time to learn more about them. The goal is to bring back the idea of community. So many people nowadays focus only on what's in front of them, what's in their house, their yard or their cubical. Gone are the days when an entire community would band together when someone got ill, or met hard times. It was time to change that, to start this movement, this revolution.

375 people, more than 50% of the audience, heard the challenge and decided to do something about it right there in Dublin GA. It's not just about the homeless. It about people in general. It's about an idea, a very powerful idea, which is so simple. Love your Neighbor.
